We are OVER snacked!

Kids aren't the only ones who smile when the words "snack time" are heard. We are obsessed with snacking. Aisle after aisle in the grocery store is filled with sweet, salty, savory and, yes, even healthy snacks. Do we live in an oversnacked society?

MONKEY SEE MONKEY DO

According to newly released data, parents who purchase low-calorie or organic foods and parents who don't keep junk food at home have children who are more likely than the average child to express healthy eating-related attitudes

The importance of FOOD JOURNALLING

Research has found successful weight "losers" tend to regularly track their weight, food intake and activity. Regularly write down what and how much you eat and drink. The longer your journal, the more information you will give yourself about your daily routine.
In fact a nutritionist asks for this before a consultation or during one!... It also helps us to see where you may be lacking in nutrients.

NUTRIENT EXTRA-ORDINARIE

NUTRIENT EXTRA-ORDINAIRE
Omega-3 fatty acids are necessary for human health but the body can' t make them; you have to get them through food. It's in fish, such as salmon, tuna, and halibut omega-3 fatty acids play a crucial role in brain function as well as normal growth and development(Stop fish oil two weeks before any surgery or ma...jor dental work - it thins the blood)

It is important to have a balance of omega-3 and omega-6 (another essential fatty acid) in the diet. Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation, and most omega-6 fatty acids tend to promote inflammation. The typical Canadian diet tends to contain20 to 1 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids. Don't buy the hype you don't need omega 6 enriched food or supplements. It's ALL about OMEGA 3

GIVE...WITH THOUGHT

NUTRITION NEWSFLASH:
Next time you do a wonderful thing like donating to a food bank put some thought into what you are giving people as nourishment. Chances are the last thing they need is another box of kraft dinner which is just empty calories and offers no nutrients.

Meat the facts

NUTRITION NEWSFLASH:
A major new study found that women who eat just 3.6 ounces of red meat daily - less than a small burger at most diners and fast-food joints - are 42 per cent more likely to have a stroke than those who eat less
than 1 ounce. Processed meats are worse: Only 1.5 ounces a day boosts ...stroke risk by 24 per cent. (source is HEALTHZONE.CA)

GOT BREAST MILK?

GOT MILK? Breast milk contains colustrum whicha has essential nutrients and protease inhibitors that keep it from being destroyed by the processes of digestion. It also contains high concentrations of leukocytes, protective white cells which can destroy disease-causing bacteria and viruses. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

People WANT to eat healthier!

A new survey released Monday by Mintel, a global market research firm, found two-thirds of American restaurant customers say they want more nutritious options when it comes to breakfast. Nearly 40 per cent of restaurant customers reported the meals at their local eateries were too ...unhealthy. (how many did NOT report this?)

This is HARD to digest but, TRUE!

NUTRITION NEWSFLASH:
Bloating is almost always a sign of bigger health issues or the beginning of them. Especially because most people have compromised their digestive systems by not eating properly.

When LESS is MORE

NUTRITION NEWSFLASH:
Humans tend to share a certain creed that goes something like this: If one is good, two are better. That's fine when it comes to dollars in the collection plate or hours spent volunteering, but not so with certain
research-has-shown items consumed in the name of health. Think nuts, red ...wine and dark chocolate
